C.O.

Sir,

12799

RECD 15 APR OC

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter No. 1727/1908, of the 27th instant and its enclosure on the question of the status of the Registrar of the Supreme Court.

2. In reply, I beg to state that Sir F. Piggott appears to have greatly misunderstood me in this matter as the extract from His Honour's letter forwarded with your letter

3. does not correctly represent my view and attitude in the matter in as much as I did not make the remarks concerning the Hon. the Colonial Secretary which His Honour attributes to me.

With reference to my showing His Honour such minutes as I deemed desirable I did so out of courtesy and with no desire that His Honour should take up the cause, as the Hon. the Colonial Secretary has always endeavoured to meet my request for keeping up the full strength of my Staff whenever the exigencies of the Service permitted of it.

4. On the last occasion that I showed a minute to His Honour, His Honour suggested that he should take up the matter alleging that it would carry more weight: in this I did not acquiesce as I was satisfied that any reasonable request made by me would always receive due consideration from the Hon. the Colonial Secretary. His Honour I believe nevertheless considered it necessary to represent the matter himself directly to His Excellency.

I am etc.,

(sd.) A. Seth,

Registrar.
